When Love is Blind

Orientation:

There was once a beautiful girl living in a city. She was known as Shinta, a nice and friendly girl. She studied at a popular senior high school in the city. She always followed the trend of young people life style. She got dressed as how the trend was at the time. In her idea, western modern life was the ideal model for all people. She thought that everybody should be free to do anything he or she liked.

She had a handsome boyfriend, Deo. Having a boy or girl friend was like a must for the young people in the city. Parent’s advice to get away from western culture was considered as old-fashioned.

Shinta loved his boyfriend very much. On Saturday evening they made a date, going to a theatre, café or party. Shinta’s parents were worried about her. They have warned her but she ignored them.

She thought, “Though my parents don’t agree with me, the show must go on. I love him very much. Whatever happens to me, I will face it”. Yes love was blind. She got blind. Since then, she often quarreled with her father and mother. She became uncontrolled. She more often went out at night with the boyfriend. But, her parents could do nothing but only wait, see and pray.

Complication:

Days went by. One morning, Shinta got a serious stomachache and wanted to throw up. She got dizzy; she went to the bathroom and threw up some contents of her stomach. Shinta was very worried. “Am I getting pregnant?” she asked herself. Her worries grew stronger until she decided to buy a pregnancy tester in a shop. She tested her urine. And … what a shock! The tester showed a positive pregnancy. Shinta got fainted in her room for some minutes. She was very afraid that her mother knew what happened.

Shinta tried to hide her pregnancy. Her face got pale every day and looked unhealthy. She tried to contact Deo. Knowing her girlfriend got pregnant; he was also frustrated and didn’t want to admit that he was the father of the baby. He tried to avoid meeting Shinta. He was not responsible for the consequence. He asked her to abort the baby, but she refused.

The stomach became bigger and bigger, but she was successful to hide it from other’s sight. She was very depressed, and more and more. Four months later, in one evening, when she could no longer be able to keep the burden, she decided to do abortion. In her bedroom, she took a chair and jumped from it to the floor. When her feet touched the floor, a bloody clod of a red fetus covered with placenta was dropped, cried and move several seconds, then stopped moving. The blood was running out of her skirt, making the floor wet. Shinta could see what happened in front of her eyes, didn’t know what to do. She tried to stand up. But then she got unconscious.

The next day, in the morning when she didn’t get out of the room, Shinta’s mother called her name several times. No answer made the mother open the room door and looked inside. She saw blood everywhere in the floor and walls. The horror was shocking her when she found her daughter lying near the dead small fetus. She was upset but could control herself.

Resolution:

Shinta’s mother quickly took her to the hospital. But, it’s too late. On the way Shinta died before she got a help. On the same day, the news about Shinta spread throughout the city.

"Recount"

In our life, time goes by until some of us die. We surely go through this life passing the time. During the whole of life, we have many happened experiences that we left behind. Sometimes we remember those experiences and sometimes we forget about them. In fact, we keep some of the events in our memory. They become our unforgettable experiences. Some are nice and some are bad experiences.

What is Recount?
A recount is a type of spoken or written text that deals with past experiences. The function is to retell some events that happened in the past for certain purposes; to inform and or to entertain the listeners or readers. A recount text has a generic structure, having three components (one is optional). They are: (1) Orientation, (2) Events and (3) Reorientation ( optional).

Recounts are principally not the same as Narratives although both talk about past events. Narratives deal with problematic events which lead to a crisis or turning point which in turn finds a resolution while recounts do not have to come to a serious crisis or complication.

A. Generic Structure of Recount Text
1. Orientation : an introduction that provides the setting and introduces participant
2. Events : account that tells what happened, in a sequence
· Event 1
· Event 2
· Event 3
· Etc

3. Reorientation (optional) : Closing of events

B. Generic Features of Recount text
1. The recount focuses on a sequence of events all of which relate to a particular occasion
2. It introduces specific participants
3. frequent uses of Simple Past Tense
4. Past continuous tense is sometimes used

How could I Hide my face?

Orientation:
One afternoon a month ago, I was very hungry. As I didn’t cook anything to eat lunch, I decided to go to a café about a hundred meters from my boarding house.

Events:
I changed my trousers and shirt then left for the café by myself because my roommate hadn’t come yet from the school. As soon as I got to the café, I ordered the meal with fresh vegetable soup that seemed very delicious in the hot day, and also a glass of tea. When they were served, I ate up eagerly the meal and soup and drank the tea. I was satisfied and it was the time to pay. I grabbed my trousers pocket and I was shocked. My hands didn’t feel there was any wallet there. I felt so embarrassed that I didn’t dare to see the faces of the customers. My body stayed still on the chair and began sweating.

I tried to control myself in front of the people. I collected my courage to come to the cashier to say something. Feeling uneasy, I told her that I left my wallet in the other trousers at the boarding house and promised to take it and come back soon. Some customers looked at me. I thought I must hide my face. She nodded and said it was not a matter.

Reorientation:
Finally, I ran to the house and got back with the money. I gave it to her and came out of the café. What a relief! It should not happen again to me

Last Idul Fitri

Last Idul Fitri on the first day following Romadhon, all the family woke up early to break our fast. First we prayed together and then we ate the special meal prepared by mum and our aunties.

Around 10 am some family members came to visit, and later after lunch we visited all our neighborhood friends. We each asked to be forgiven for any transgressions in the past year.

On the second and third day, we went to our grandparent’s house. We asked for their forgiveness also, and spend a relaxing time visiting other relatives and nearby tourist sites such as the beach and few temples.

note: this passage tells us about a past events of writer that is told chronologically

To make it clear, please remember the concept or recount below:

Recounts tell the reader what happened. They retell a past event e.g. a visit to a farm two months ago.
Recounts begin by telling the reader who was involved, what happened, where this event tool place and when it happened. This is called the orientation.

The sequence of events is then described in some sort of order e.g. time.

There may be a reorientation at the end which summarizes the event.

Writing recount:
When writing a recounts you should:
· Focus on individual people, i.e. use the words, “I”, or “we”
· Use words which indicate when, (e.g. after lunch) and where the events took place (e.g. in the afternoon)
· Write it in the past tense
· Use action verbs e.g. helped, walked, enjoyed

~~~
"Procedure"
Procedure is the set of steps which should be completed in the right sequence to get the goal. In our daily life, we often have to perform some steps to make or get something done. For example, early in the morning, you help your mother prepare cups of tea for all members of your family. In making cups of tea, you have to follow certain procedure in order to get a nice drink. Most of our daily activities are related with procedures. That is why, you should understand what a procedure text is, how to make and use it. The generic structure of procedure has three principal components namely (1) the goal, (2) materials and (3) steps.
A. Generic Structure of procedure
1. Goal : Title of the text (especially for a recipe)
2. Materials : Optional, not for all procedural texts
3. Steps : a series steps oriented to achieving the Goal
B. Generic Features
1. The use of Simple Present Tense, often in an imperative form e.g. Add some sugar, prepare it,.
2. The use mainly of temporal conjunction (or numbering to indicate sequence especially in written text)
a. As the sentence introducers (sequencers) especially in spoken text:
First … Firstly …
Second … Secondly …
Then … Thirdly …
After that … Afterwards …
Finally … Lastly …
e.g. Firstly, prepare some water!
b. As time introducers, especially in written text
… before …
After …
When …
While …
… until …
During …
e.g. While you are boiling the water, grind the chilies, onions and salt
Tangled Movie Review
By Pratamagusta P.M.D (X-7/25)
A drop of sunlight falls to the ground and grows into a magical flower, with the power to heal the sick and injured. An old woman named Gothel finds it and uses it to keep herself young by singing an incantation. Centuries later, the Queen becomes ill during childbirth, and so the flower is found. She is healed and gives birth to a daughter, whom they name Rapunzel, whose golden hair is now the source of the magical power. Gothel kidnaps Rapunzel and hides her in a tall tower, saving the powers of the magic flower for herself, and raising her as her own child. Gothel knows that if Rapunzel's hair is cut, it will turn brown and lose its magic, so Rapunzel's hair is left to grow. Every year, on Rapunzel's birthday, her kingdom releases thousands of sky lanterns, in the hope that the lost princess will return. On the eve of her eighteenth birthday, Rapunzel asks Gothel to let her see the floating lights, but Gothel refuses.
Meanwhile, a group of thieves, led by the charismatic Flynn Rider, steals the tiara of the lost princess from the castle. During the ensuing chase, a horse named Maximus is separated from his rider, the Captain of the Guards, and continues the search for Flynn on his own. Flynn outwits his accomplices and takes the tiara; he abandons them and stumbles upon Rapunzel's tower. Once inside the tower, Rapunzel knocks Flynn unconscious with a frying pan. She hides Flynn inside her closet and confiscates the tiara. When Gothel returns, Rapunzel requests, as a birthday present, a special paint made from white shells from a faraway beach. Gothel leaves on the three-day journey to bring back the shells. Rapunzel makes a deal with Flynn: a journey to the "lights" in exchange for the tiara. Flynn attempts to make Rapunzel end their journey by taking her to the Snuggly Duckling inn, which is full of Gaul thugs, but the thugs are charmed by Rapunzel, who encourages them to follow their dreams.
Mother Gothel sees Maximus riderless and worries someone will find Rapunzel. She returns to the tower to find Rapunzel gone. Meanwhile, the guards invade the tavern, but Rapunzel and Flynn have escaped. The pursuit ends at a dam, which Maximus causes to collapse; Flynn and Rapunzel are trapped in a flooding cave. Believing he's about to die, Flynn admits his true name: Eugene Fitzherbert. Rapunzel admits she has magic hair that glows when she sings. Using her power, they find a way out. Later, when Flynn goes to gather firewood, Gothel secretly meets Rapunzel. Gothel tells Rapunzel that Flynn does not care for her and merely wants the tiara. Gothel gives Rapunzel the tiara, insisting that she tests Flynn by giving it to him.
The next morning, Maximus confronts Flynn, but to Flynn's dismay Rapunzel befriends the horse. The three arrive at the kingdom and that night Flynn takes Rapunzel to see the lanterns. There, Rapunzel gives Flynn back the tiara. Flynn spies the Stabbington brothers and leaves Rapunzel waiting as he gives them the tiara back. However, the brothers tie him up on a boat and sail him across the lake. They reveal Flynn's "betrayal" to Rapunzel as they attempt to kidnap her for her hair's power, but Gothel "rescues" her and they return to the tower. Later, Flynn is arrested and sentenced to death. Maximus brings the inn thugs to rescue Flynn, and Maximus and Flynn race back to the tower. From various clues she found during her adventure, Rapunzel realizes she is the lost princess and attempts to flee the tower. When Flynn escapes on Maximus and returns to the tower, he climbs up Rapunzel's hair only to find her chained to the wall and gagged. Gothel stabs him from behind and prepares to take Rapunzel to a new hiding place, detaching the end of the chain from the wall and trying to pull her away. Rapunzel's gag comes off and she says she will always fight, but promises to go with Gothel willingly if she allows her to heal Flynn. Knowing that Rapunzel keeps her word, Gothel agrees, but before Rapunzel heals him, Flynn cuts her hair with a shard of broken mirror. Rapunzel's hair turns brown and loses its power and Gothel rapidly begins to age. Disoriented, Gothel stumbles around the tower when Pascal causes her to trip and fall from the tower. She turns to dust before she hits the ground.
Rapunzel tries to heal the unconscious Flynn; however with his last breaths he declares his love for her and says that she was his new dream. Flynn slowly dies in Rapunzel's arms. Heartbroken, she cries, and tearfully sings the incantation. One teardrop, filled with her power, lands on his cheek and revives him. The two embrace and kiss. Back at the kingdom, the royal family has a tearful reunion. "Years" later, Flynn and Rapunzel are married. Along the way, the Gaul thugs fulfill their individual dreams and Maximus becomes a respected official on the Royal Guard.
Narrative, Recount, And Prochedure Text
Narrative Text
Based on perception in time. Narration is the telling of a story; the succession of events is given in chronological order.
Purpose The basic purpose of narrative is to entertain, to gain and hold a readers' interest. However narratives can also be written to teach or inform, to change attitudes / social opinions e.g. soap operas and television dramas that are used to raise topical issues. Narratives sequence people/characters in time and place but differ from recounts in that through the sequencing, the stories set up one or more problems, which must eventually find a way to be resolved. The common structure or basic plan of narrative text is known as the "story grammar." Although there are numerous variations of the story grammar, the typical elements are:
• Setting—when and where the story occurs.
• Characters—the most important people or players in the story.
• Initiating event—an action or occurrence that establishes a problem and/or goal. • Conflict/goal—the focal point around which the whole story is organized.
• Events—one or more attempts by the main character(s) to achieve the goal or solve the problem. • Resolution—the outcome of the attempts to achieve the goal or solve the problem.
• Theme—the main idea or moral of the story. The graphic representation of these story grammar elements is called a story map. The exact form and complexity of a map depends, of course, upon the unique structure of each narrative and the personal preference of the teacher constructing the map.
Types of Narrative There are many types of narrative. They can be imaginary, factual or a combination of both. They may include fairy stories, mysteries, science fiction, romances, horror stories, adventure stories, fables, myths and legends, historical narratives, ballads, slice of life, personal experience. Features
• Characters with defined personalities/identities.
• Dialogue often included - tense may change to the present or the future.
• Descriptive language to create images in the reader's mind and enhance the story.
Structure In a Traditional Narrative the focus of the text is on a series of actions: Orientation: (introduction) in which the characters, setting and time of the story are established. Usually answers who? When? Where?
E.g. Mr. Wolf went out hunting in the forest one dark gloomy night.
Complication or problem: The complication usually involves the main character(s) (often mirroring the complications in real life).
Resolution: There needs to be a resolution of the complication. The complication may be resolved for better or worse/happily or unhappily. Sometimes there are a number of complications that have to be resolved. These add and sustain interest and suspense for the reader. Further more, when there is plan for writing narrative texts, the focus should be on the following characteristics:
• Plot: What is going to happen?
• Setting: Where will the story take place? When will the story take place?
• Characterization: Who are the main characters? What do they look like?
• Structure: How will the story begin? What will be the problem? How is the problem going to be resolved?
• Theme: What is the theme / message the writer is attempting to communicate?
Contoh:
Once upon a time, there was a man who was living in north Sumatra. He lived in a simple hut in a farming field. The did some gardening and fishing for his daily life.
One day, while the man was do fishing, he caught a big golden fish in his trap. It was the biggest catch which he ever had in his life. Surprisingly, this fish turned into a beautiful princess. He felt in love with her and proposed her to be his wife. She said; "Yes, but you have to promise not to tell anyone about the secret that I was once a fish, otherwise there will be a huge disaster". The man made the deal and they got married, lived happily and had a daughter.
Few years later, this daughter would help bringing lunch to her father out in the fields. One day, his daughter was so hungry and she ate his father’s lunch. Unfortunately, he found out and got furious, and shouted; “You damned daughter of a fish”. The daughter ran home and asked her mother. The mother started crying, felt sad that her husband had broke his promise.
Then she told her daughter to run up the hills because a huge disaster was about to come. When her daughter left, she prayed. Soon there was a big earthquake followed by non-stop pouring rain. The whole area got flooded and became Toba Lake. She turned into a fish again and the man became the island of Samosir.
The man felt excited having the smartest parrot but he could not understand why the parrot would not say Catano. The man tried to teach the bird to say Catano however the bird kept not saying the word.
At the first, the man was very nice to the bird but then he got very angry. “You stupid bird!” pointed the man to the parrot. “Why can’t you say the word? Say Catano! Or I will kill you” the man said angrily. Although he tried hard to teach, the parrot would not say it. Then the man got so angry and shouted to the bird over and over; “Say Catano or I’ll kill you”. The bird kept not to say the word of Catano.
One day, after he had been trying so many times to make the bird say Catano, the man really got very angry. He could not bear it. He picked the parrot and threw it into the chicken house. There were four old chickens for next dinner “You are as stupid as the chickens. Just stay with them” Said the man angrily. Then he continued to humble; “You know, I will cut the chicken for my meal. Next it will be your turn, I will eat you too, stupid parrot”. After that he left the chicken house.
The next day, the man came back to the chicken house. He opened the door and was very surprised. He could not believe what he saw at the chicken house. There were three death chickens on the floor. At the moment, the parrot was standing proudly and screaming at the last old chicken; “Say Catano or I’ll kill you”.
A Visit to a Sheep Property
ORIENTATION : Last holidays I visited a sheep property. I helped in the shearing sheds and in the yards.
EVENT 1 : On the first day the Merino wethers were crutched. I helped by sweeping up after the rouseabout picked up the wool pieces. Shearers start early (at 7.30 am)
EVENT 2 : After lunch, we started shearing the lambs. There were more than 400 so we didn’t finish until the next day. Once again I was sweeping and picking up dags.
EVENT 3 : I was tired by the end of the day in the shed but our work wasn’t finished. We all had to help to get the wethers and lambs back into the paddocks. As well, we had to get a mob of ewes and their lambs into the yards for shearing the next day. Then it was time for tea (that’s what my nanna calls dinner).
REORIENTATION : This was a very long day but I enjoyed it a lot.
Review back (Siti Hapsari Kusumowardani) X7
A long, long time ago, a drop of sunlight fell from the sky, and when it touched the Earth, a glowing yellow flower blossomed. The flower was found by a woman named Mother Gothel, who soon learned that when she sang a certain song to the flower, it exuded a power that restored her youth.
Centuries passed, and a kingdom grew and prospered nearby. After sometime, the King and his Wife were expecting their first child, but as her due date approached, the Queen fell deathly ill. There was an old rumor that a glowing yellow flower created by a drop of sunlight could cure any illness, and so the soldiers of the kingdom searched far and wide, and finally found the flower that Gothel had been hoarding for many years.
The flower was distilled into an elixir which saved the Queen's life. She soon gave birth to a little girl who, unlike her parents, had beautiful golden hair. Giving her the name Rapunzel, the Royal family held a celebration, in which they sent aloft a glowing paper lantern.
Mother Gothel, however, had seen the soldiers take the flower and was determined not to lose it's magical powers. She stole into the castle late one night and, upon finding Rapunzel in her crib, recited the song. The girl's hair glowed yellow just like the flower, but when Gothel attempted to clip some hair in hopes to use it to restore her beauty, the clipped hair turned brown. So Gothel kidnapped the young girl and fled with her deep into the forrest.
Taking her to a secret tower, Mother Gothel raised the girl to think that she was her mother, teaching her the song and relying on her for youthful restoration. As the years went by, Rapunzel was fascinated by a strange grouping of light that took place on the same day as her birthday. Unknown to her, the releasing of lanterns is a tradition of the King and Queen, in hopes their daughter will return to them one day.
Over the years, Rapunzel grows into a creative young woman, trying to amuse herself in her tower as Mother Gothel comes and goes as she pleases. Rapunzel also befriends a little chameleon named Pascal. Though she claims that she likes staying in her tower, she longs to leave it and see the world, especially the floating lights that occur on her birthday.
A few days before her birthday, Mother Gothel visits her, and Rapunzel gets up the nerve to ask Gothel to take her to see the floating lights. Gothel quells Rapunzel's interest by scaring her into thinking that the world is too dangerous for someone as naive as her, and that people will want to capture her for her magic golden hair. Sadly, Rapunzel promises to not ask to leave the tower again.
After Mother Gothel leaves, Rapunzel is shocked when a young man makes his way into the tower. After hitting him over the head with a frying pan and hiding him in her closet, Rapunzel now feels that Mother Gothel was wrong, and that if she was able to subdue a person and put him in a closet, maybe she can take care of herself! However, when Mother Goethel returns and tries to broach the subject again (trying to lead up to revealing the young man in her closet), Mother Gothel loudly proclaims that Rapunzel will never leave the tower.
Quickly, Rapunzel changes the subject, and requests that Mother Gothel get her some seashells to make more white paint with. Mother Goethel is not pleased to make a 3-day journey for this, but does so in hopes that this will turn Rapunzel's mind away from leaving.
After she is gone, Rapunzel releases the young man, and tying him in a chair with her hair, finds that his name is Flynn Rider. Flynn claims he was just looking for a place to hide, having stolen a tiara from the neighboring kingdom. Rapunzel takes his satchel and the tiara contained within, and makes a deal with Flynn: if he will take her to see the floating lanterns and return her to her tower, she will give him back his satchel and the tiara. Reluctantly, Flynn agrees.
After making her way out of the tower, Rapunzel struggles with her emotions: excited to see the world for the first time, but also deeply guilty that she has defied her 'Mother.' Flynn offers to return her, but Rapunzel claims she will be alright.
Hoping to get her to change her mind, Flynn takes her to a place called The Snuggly Duckling, which is overrun with a group of ruffians. However, the ruffians recognize Flynn as a wanted man of the neighboring kingdom, and send one of their associates to alert the Palace Guards. However, Rapunzel pleads with the men to let Flynn go, and how she needs him to fulfill a dream she's had all her life. This melts the hearts of the ruffians, who each reveal dreams of their own.
However, the Palace Guards soon enter, and Rapunzel and Flynn escape through a secret passageway. This leads them to a quarry, where Flynn is soon cornered by the Palace Guards, a Palace horse named Maximus, and two of Flynn's cohorts who he attempted to flee from with the tiara.
As Rapunzel and Flynn attempt to escape, Maximus dislodges a piece of wood from a makeshift dam nearby, attempting to use it to walk over a cliff area...only to have the dam break and flood the area. Rapunzel and Flynn make it into a cave, but are soon trapped when rocks cover the entrance, and water from the broken dam begins to fill up the empty space. Feeling that they may soon die, the two then confess a secret to the other: Flynn reveals that his real name is Eugene Fitzherbert, and Rapunzel reveals that her hair glows when she sings. Realizing this can work to their advantage, she quickly sings, and the illumination from her hair allows Flynn to dislodge some of the rocks at the entrace, and the two escape.
Meanwhile, Mother Gothel has returned from her journey early, and having found Rapunzel gone from the tower, but the satchel and tiara there along with a wanted poster of Flynn, sets out to bring her 'daughter' back. Arming herself with a dagger and trailing the two to the Snuggly Duckling, she soon learns that they have escaped through a tunnel, and manages to find where the tunnel ends. When she gets there, she instead finds Flynn's two cohorts. Hoping to use them to her advantage, she gives them back the satchel and tiara that Flynn had, but claims she knows of something worth much more, and can also help them exact revenge on Flynn Rider.
As night settles, Flynn and Rapunzel camp for the night, and Rapunzel uses her hair to heal a wound on Flynn's hand from the escape. As they talk, Flynn reveals why he does not go by his given name of Eugene. As an orphan, he was entranced by stories of a thief named Flynn, and the daring to have enough money to go anywhere he wanted intrigued him. Even so, Rapunzel claims that she likes the name Eugene better.
After Flynn goes off to get some more wood for their fire, Mother Gothel appears to Rapunzel, and intends to take her back to the tower. However, Rapunzel refuses to go. When she claims that she thinks Flynn likes her, Gothel reveals the tiara and satchel, claiming that's all Flynn really cares for. Gothel gives these to Rapunzel and tells her to give them to Flynn to prove her right.
Fearing that Gothel is telling the truth, Rapunzel hides the items when he returns, and they settle in for the night, with Gothel and Flynn's former cohorts watching from a distance.
The next day, the horse Maximus finally tracks down Flynn, intending to turn him in. However, Rapunzel convinces Maximus that she needs Flynn to show her the lanterns, and the horse gives in to her 24-hour reprieve. The group then makes their way to the nearby kingdom, where Rapunzel has her hair weaved into an extra-large braid to keep it from getting trampled, and views an intricate tile portrait of the Royal family, including a blonde baby girl.
As the day wears on, Rapunzel and Flynn grow closer together until it's time for the lantern ceremony. The two take a boat out onto the nearby waters, and are in awe as the lanterns cast a romantic setting upon the water. Rapunzel then reveals the satchel and tiara, but unlike what Goethel told her, Flynn does not seem to care about these. As they watch the lanterns , they then confess their feelings for each other, but before they can kiss, Flynn spots his cohorts on the nearby shore.
Bringing the boat to shore, Flynn meets his cohorts, and apologizes for his actions, giving them the satchel and the tiara. However, they now claim they don't want it.
As she waits by the boat, Rapunzel is shocked when the two cohorts approach her, and point out a boat sailing towards the kingdom, with Flynn at the wheel. The two claim he took the crown and left, leaving them to capture Rapunzel and her magical hair. Rapunzel attempts to flee, but is saved when Mother Gothel appears, knocking out the two men. Rapunzel then returns with her "mother", promising never to disobey her again.
In reality, the two men knocked out Flynn, and lashed him and the tiara to the wheel of the ship. As it arrives at the kingdom's port, Flynn is arrested.
Back in her tower, Mother Gothel sends Rapunzel to her room, claiming they'll forget everything that happened. However, as she looks around her room and at the sun emblem of the kingdom she obtained while she was there, Rapunzel notices that within a number of her drawings, the same symbol occurs, and she suddenly realizes that she is the missing Princess for whom the lanterns are for!
Rapunzel goes to Mother Gothel wanting to know the truth. Realizing that she has been lied to all her life, Rapunzel attempts to leave but not before Gothel stops her from going after Flynn, claiming that he has by now been captured by the Palace Guards who most likely will execute him as soon as possible.
In the kingdom, Flynn is led to the gallows, but stops when he comes across his cohorts, wanting to know what they did to Rapunzel. They claim they were acting under the order of Mother Gothel to get Rapunzel back.
As Flynn is about to be led into the courtyard gallows, The ruffians from the Snuggly Duckling along with Maximus break Flynn out. Maximus then helps Flynn return to the tower.
When Rapunzel's hair ascends to the ground, Flynn climbs up it, but is shocked when he sees Rapunzel bound and gagged, and is soon stabbed by Gothel with a dagger. Gothel then leaves Flynn to die, trying to drag Rapunzel out another exit, promising to take her somewhere where no one will find her.
As she struggles watching Flynn in pain, Rapunzel promises she will go with Gothel without resistance, if she can use her magic hair to save Flynn.
Gothel agrees, but chains Flynn to keep him from getting away. Flynn begs Rapunzel not to do this, saying that her promise will never allow her to be free. As she attempts to recite the magic incantation, Flynn gets hold of a broken piece of the nearby vanity mirror, cutting off Rapunzel's long hair, breaking its enchantment.
This then causes Mother Gothel to age quickly, driving her into a state of shock that causes her to fall out the nearby window. Aging several centuries in a matter of seconds, her cloak then hits the forest floor, and all that remains of the vain woman is a a cloud of dust.
As Rapunzel watches, Flynn dies in her arms. Her eyes filled with tears, she finishes reciting the incantation, even though her hair has now turned to a more natural brown color. However, as a tear falls on Flynn's face, the last magic of the sunflower restores Flynn to health, and the two lovers unite in a kiss.
Flynn and Rapunzel then return to the kingdom, where Rapunzel is reunited with her parents. Flynn is welcomed into the family, and after a celebration to mark the return of the Princess (in which we see that the ruffians have also fulfilled their own dreams), it is revealed that eventually, Flynn (aka Eugene) and Rapunzel were married soon after.
